Please watch our Pangea Day short film entry available on YouTube. Check back soon for more video.
Pangea day is the event this film was created for, a global film festival about creating world peace by showcasing films that see through the eyes of the Other.
In "BARKA!PANGEA!" we don't actually get to see through the eyes of the Other. The camera is clearly in the hands of the westerner. However, the opportunity for westerners to see a unique view of Africa, one that shines out with a positive vibration in the face of poverty, has a similar effect on the consciousness of the viewer. In seeing how the beautiful Gour'mache people of Burkina Faso are living, the world's grief, sadness, pain, and imbalances become evident.
We hope there are lots of children who watch Pangea Day, including indigenous children who might get the chance to see themselves represented in the day's films. We think that's a powerful idea, and the kind of reciprocity that will help create world peace.
In the final 30 seconds of this 5-minute film, the sand in our hourglass is running out. 'Now is the time' for all of us to rise to the challenges posed by our global crises and do what we can to aid the situation. For The BARKA Foundation, that means humanitarian work in Burkina Faso in the areas of clean water, food, education, women's empowerment, micro-finance, and wisdomkeeping.
